Sabhanaz Rashid Diya Appointed As Facebook’s Bangladesh Affairs Officer

abhanaz Rashid Diya appointed as Facebook’s Bangladesh affairs officer. She has been appointed by the Facebook Authority as the Public Policy Manager in Bangladesh. Now she’s going to be the representative of Bangladesh on Facebook, who will administer all the occurrences related to Bangladesh.

On 7th September 2020, Monday, a virtual meeting was held at the regional headquarters of Facebook in Singapore. In that three-hour-long meeting, the Facebook authority virtually announced about their decision of appointing Sabhanaz Rashid Diya as the Country Manager of Bangladesh.

The meeting happened between the Post and Telecommunication Minister of Bangladesh, Mr. Mustafa Jabbar, and the Facebook Authority.

The Facebook Authority made Mustafa Jabbar and Sabhanaz meet virtually through the meeting. Mustafa Jabbar has appreciated this step taken by Facebook authority and he has also shown gratitude for them. 

The sources of Ministry later said that Sabhanaz will immediately respond to issues connected to Bangladesh. It will be easier for the Bangladeshi people to connect with her as she’s a Bengali-speaking lady.

They also revealed that the minister has requested the Facebook Authority to withdraw and refrain all the hassled contents which stand against the socio-cultural manner and laws of Bangladesh. 

In the meeting, it was also confirmed that from now on, the Facebook Authority will hold at least one meeting every month with Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and other concerned authorities for implementing their activities cleanly in Bangladesh. 

The minister also said that Facebook contents in Bangladesh have to be shaped according to Bangladeshi Laws and can’t go against Digital Security Act. In response to his request, the Facebook authority assured him of taking care of this serious issue.

Sabhanaz is a renowned Bangladeshi Social Scientist, who is also a writer. She worked in the popular newspaper “The Daily Star” for almost 14 years as a columnist, sub-editor, and a reporter.

Sabhanaz Rashid is a Technology Policy and Global Development expert, who has experience of working in different places of South Africa, America, South, and Southeast Asia. It’s been more than 15 years that she is looking after policy research matters, designs, and implementation in various renowned companies.

Before getting appointed by Facebook, she used to work in Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as the Policy and Advocacy Lead for Bangladesh and Indonesia. She also worked in the World Bank, USAID, and the most popular search engine throughout the world – Google.

The newly appointed country manager of Facebook moved to the US in 2006, but before that, she worked here as an entrepreneur. She had founded the One Degree Initiative Foundation,” a social enterprise.

Behind founding this enterprise, she had a desire to mentor the young people of Bangladesh ( Aged between 16 years to 25 years) so that they could use technology in a positive way, through developing Public Service Innovations. 

In Bangladesh, the “One Degree Initiative Foundation” has accomplished more than 200 projects. Through those projects, the enterprise has provided guidelines for more than 15,000 global young people, and of them, 65% are women. The enterprise has wonderfully affected almost 1.2 million people’s lives.  

US Governments awarded Sabhanaz and the One Degree Initiative in 2013 as they were trying their best to help the Rana Plaza Collapse affected people. Sabhanaz’s organization also got recognition from the United Nations, Latin American Ambassadors, and seven female Entrepreneurs in 2014 for their tremendous work of Gender Equity Promotion.
